Learning the sport or hobby of archery is no walk in the park. It takes time, consistency, focus, patience, and a whole lot of practice to master the skills. Fortunately, there is a fun and valuable way to learn archery skills that the whole family can enjoy, even if their bows aren’t quite ready for shooting at live game.
3D target shooting may not sound as exciting as hunting live game, but for the beginner archer, it’s a fantastic way to learn without harming any real animals in the process, and it’s actually quite fun.
One of the keys to archery hunting is getting close enough to shoot the animal without spooking it. This can be extremely difficult, and if you aren’t seasoned for this or don’t practice it, it can be just about impossible.
If you are just starting out in archery, these close up shots are where the money is, but you want to be able to practice on a target first. You can do this easily with a 3D target. Good luck doing it with a live animal!
Even though that 3D target isn’t alive and isn’t moving, it’s a great way to condition your brain to shoot at an object like a live animal. 3D targets come in all shapes and sizes and just about every kind of animal you can imagine. You might even get a 3D target of a zombie…just in case there’s a zombie apocalypse.
I can shoot out to about 120 yards with my bow, however, I would NEVER shoot a live animal at that distance. But I love practicing at that distance with the 3D targets. It makes those close up shots seem so much easier.
If you can afford 3D targets, I highly recommend getting some and setting them up in all sorts of different positions that you might experience while actually hunting. My husband and I set up chip shots (close ups) as well as distance shots (out to about 120 yards), but we also set up technical shots like between two trees, uphill, downhill, etc. Anything to simulate the real woods when you’re out hunting will be beneficial to you.
I must also say, it’s much more fun shooting at 3D targets of animals than it is shooting at blocks. The blocks do come in very handy, though, and we do use them often. We actually take them camping with us and use them to keep up on our practice when we’re away from home because they’re a little easier to haul around than a full size 3D target of an elk! We also use them with broadheads and when practicing form so as not to attain target panic.
By the way, 3D targets aren’t cheap, so it’s best to use field tips when shooting them rather than broadheads. Broadheads will really chew up a 3D target.
To sum it all up, there are tons of 3D target options. Every size and shape imaginable, plus different brands and styles. These targets are great for those just starting out in archery, for seasoned archers, and it can be fun for the whole family. It’s a great way to practice form, after all, that’s what archery is all about.
In the meantime, keep aiming and happy shooting!

Now I’ll tell you a little bit about my plan and why I came up with it.
My husband and I are both hunters. We used to rifle hunt all the time, but there are so many people rifle hunting now that it’s pure crazy out there. The last rifle hunt we went on was like being in a war zone. It was really scary. We always had to watch out for other hunters, but it was getting worse out there. I couldn’t trust anyone, and there were so many people! We decided that we just weren’t into it anymore, and we didn’t feel safe at all, so we decided to try archery, and we instantly fell in love with it!
When we went to the archery shop to try bows out, there were all sorts of people there…men, women, children, and families. It was such a great environment! After shooting a few different bows, we decided that that’s what we wanted to do, and we’ve been totally addicted ever since!
We loved the fact that you had to get closer to the animals when you were hunting, and we also loved the fact that archery season is right when the bull elk are in the rut (looking for chicks), so they are kind of dumb and really horny. It makes hunting them a little easier because their mind is only on one thing…females!
We also felt safer. When we are out archery hunting we would rarely see people, whereas when we were rifle hunting we ALWAYS saw people, and lots of them! It was nice to not run into hunters all the time!
We also felt safer because of the fact that when you’re archery hunting, you have to get a lot closer to the animal, so there’s no chance of being shot at by another hunter from 500 yards. You want to usually get within 50 yards of the animal, so much less chance of getting shot at by another human! Plus, it was pretty amazing being that close to such magnificent creatures!
We found our passion!
There was only one problem. As with almost all sports, archery is very centered around men. There were some bows for females, but I really didn’t like any of them. They weren’t built the same as the bows for guys.
I also didn’t like the fact that every ad I saw for women had to be pink! I hate pink! Why do they think that ALL women love pink?? I didn’t want a pink bow and I didn’t want pink camouflage! No offense to people who love pink, but I really don’t want to hunt with it!

It was so hard to find things for women. In fact, most of the clothes I bought were for men or kids, because everything women-related is pink! I now own a bow that is NOT made specifically for women, and I love it! So, needless to say, I wasn’t happy about that part of archery.

I really wanted to create a movement, a revolution, if you will. All the archery magazines I read are also centered around men. All the articles, all the pictures, all the ads. There may be one little, tiny ad in the back of the magazine for women, but again, it’s usually pink! I needed to create change! The number of women getting into archery is growing by leaps and bounds, and I didn’t want women to go through the same things I did, so I had a plan.

My plan was to create a membership site for everyone, but I wanted it to be centered around women for a change. I wanted it to be like a one-stop-shopping experience. A place where women could go to find everything they needed and to learn everything they needed. I wanted to supply information, products, and all sorts of things that I couldn’t find when I was starting out. So I created Chrome X Archery…short for Chromosome X Archery.
I had all sorts of great ideas, but I had no idea where to start. And I felt so overwhelmed and stressed. I wanted to be able to give women everything they needed when they needed it, but how was I going to do all of this? It felt like an impossible task.
When I started out in archery, there was nothing like this for me, and I found it extremely frustrating.
Internally, while it was very important to me to have a place for women to go to find everything they needed for archery, it was also important to me that women received the same respect and authority that men had in the world of archery. As I mentioned before, all the archery magazines were drenched in articles and ads for men, and nothing for women. How was that fair? You might find an article here and there every once in a blue moon that had to do with a female archer, but it was rare, and that wasn’t fair to me, especially because I knew plenty of female archers who could outshoot the guys!
Guys got all the attention, and women got none. Why weren’t there articles about women or for women? I couldn’t understand it.
And because I’m an outdoorsy person and I love many of the activities that guys tend to do (dirt bikes, mountain bikes, shooting, archery, etc.), I actually deal with this a lot.
It’s the same with dirt biking. All the bikes, equipment, magazines, and shows are centered around men. I can ride a dirt bike better than most of the guys we go riding with, yet no one manufactures a bike for women like me. I have to have all my bikes modified, because I can’t ride a little bike on the trails I do, and the big bikes are just that, too big. I’m 5’ 3” and everything I get is way too tall, so everything I get has to be modified. More and more women are getting into dirt bikes, too, and it’s the same thing for them. All the good trail bikes are super tall, so unless you’re a really tall female, you either have to buy a little bike, which has much less power, or you have to modify your bike, which is really expensive. AND most dirt bike gear for females is pink! It’s ridiculous!
I felt like an afterthought in everything, and I was sick of feeling that way. I wanted women to be at the top of the same leaderboards as men. There was no reason they shouldn’t be.
I kept hitting walls when I started my Facebook page and website. I wasn’t sure where to start. I knew what I wanted to do, but I didn’t know how to accomplish it all. So I started talking to groups for women online. I figured I could get some ideas from them and go from there. But this turned out to be more difficult than I thought.
I looked for archery forums first. The first one I found I thought was a home run, but it ended up not being a home run at all. A guy was asking a question for his girlfriend. She was having issues shooting her bow because every time she shot, she would hit her boobs with the string.
I started reading the answers, and you know what I found? Not one answer came from a female! Not one! There were tons and tons of answers from guys, and I’m not saying they’re answers were wrong, because a lot of them made good points, but no one talked about what she could have done from a female’s perspective.
I couldn’t believe it! Perhaps none of them really knew. I mean, none of them had been in a situation like that, so how would they know? But my biggest burning question was, why weren’t any women answering this question? I suppose it was the same reason I didn’t answer it. I felt inferior.
I don’t want women to feel inferior anymore. I want them to have a voice in whatever it is they are passionate about, whether it’s archery, dirt biking, or anything that is mainly centered around men. But how could I make them feel like they had a voice and that their voice would be respected? That was the question I couldn’t quite answer.
Even though more and more women were getting into archery, I felt that we would always be second to men. How do you change that? I had no clue, but I really wanted to find out.
So I began researching and researching, learning and learning, doing everything I could to find a way to give women a voice. That’s when I decided to create a place for women. A place where they were number one. Of course, I wanted men to benefit from it, too, but I wanted women to be the main reason for it. That was my goal.
That’s when I found the One Funnel Away Challenge, a place where people to go to grow their business ideas. They warned us that it would be a challenge, and they weren’t kidding about that! I came across all sorts of barricades that slowed me down and made me second guess my choices. But I kept forging on, and I’ve met some amazing people in the process.
Watch for Part 4 on my journey and learn about some of the challenges I faced on the road to my discoveries! In the meantime, if you want to read a little bit about boobs and bows (sorry guys, no boob pictures for you!), you can visit my Facebook page and my website, Chrome X Archery. You’ll also find other helpful articles there! Enjoy!

The number one thing I wanted more than anything else was to be able to support my parents. I wanted to help them buy the house/property of their dreams in the location of their dreams. They had worked so hard their entire lives, and they were tired. They also did everything they could for me growing up, and I wanted to be able to give back a little, even though I knew I could never repay them for everything.
I didn’t need a ton of money, just enough so we wouldn’t have to worry about it all the time. I wanted to have enough money so that I didn’t have to only grocery shop for things that were on sale. I also wanted to be able to pay our bills with a little bit left over at the end of the month.
My husband worked his butt off, and he supported me while I was chasing my dreams. He worked so hard to pay off the debt that his mom accrued while she was gambling (rest her soul). He almost lost their family’s auto body shop because instead of paying the taxes, his mom used the money to gamble.
We didn’t know about this until after she had passed away from pancreatic cancer. That was a super rough patch in our lives. Don’t get me wrong, we loved his mom with all our hearts, but she left us with a huge mess. If only we knew and we could have maybe helped her. But we can always think about the “if’s.” It doesn’t do us any good now.
My husband would often go without a paycheck after she passed, because he absolutely had to pay his employees, and he also absolutely had to pay the taxes that had accumulated over all the years of his mom doing the books for their business and not paying them. It was a crazy.
I also dreamed about donating money to good causes, such as Cystic Fibrosis (two of my nephews live with this and one of my very good friends died from it), Cancer Research, and more. But I knew that I was never going to be able to afford to donate money when I didn’t have any left after all the bills.
I would also love to be able to support my friends when they need support financially. I don’t have thousands upon thousands of friends, but the friends I do have are worth thousands upon thousands, and watching them struggle is hard. It would just be nice to be able to pay their mortgage off or help them in some way or another.
Another thing I really wanted to be able to do was send my nephews and nieces to college. My parents couldn’t afford to send my sister and I, even though they really wanted to, so I really wanted to be able to do that for my nephews and nieces so they don’t have to worry about paying tuition like I did. My husband and I also can’t have children, so if I could send my sister’s children, that’s next best.
I wanted so badly to be able to work from home, work my own hours, not have a boss, and make good money doing it. I thought this was probably too good to be true, but I would search until I found something. I also really wanted to be able to own my own business eventually, and I figured I could learn how to along the way, hopefully.
I didn’t want to be sick all the time anymore. It was so draining, and after the last major bout, I didn’t want to go through anything like that again. Being sick kept me from seeing my family and friends. It kept me from doing the things I loved to do.
I really struggled with working so hard at the school, so many hours, and not enough pay. There was no money left at the end of the month, so we had to be extra frugal. My job was killing me, literally. I couldn’t stand it anymore. After I got really sick, I decided to take a leave of absence. One day when I was on leave, I started thinking about going back to work. We really needed the money, even though it wasn’t much. But that same night I had a terrible nightmare about going back, and I took that as a sign that I really shouldn’t.
My back problems also made working as a teacher very hard. I’m a bit of a dare-devil and adrenaline junky, so I love to do things like ride dirt bikes, mountain bike technical trails, jump out of perfectly good airplanes, and so on and so forth. Anything that gets my blood pumping is F.U.N.! The only problem is, I have injured my poor body too many times. I’m pretty hard on this body of mine. In the meantime, I accumulated some doctor bills that I felt I’d be paying on for the rest of my life, unfortunately. I really wanted to be able to afford whatever I needed in order to heal my back pain, but I couldn’t afford the necessities in life, let alone something that costs a fortune, like doctors.
On the inside I was hating the fact that I couldn’t give my family what they wanted and needed. I couldn’t help them financially and I couldn’t spend time with them. I really wanted to make them all proud, too.
I wanted everyone to see that I was capable of so much more. My parents knew that I was capable, but perhaps it was I who didn’t know. I guess we are our biggest critics. So I kept criticizing myself for not being able to help everyone. That’s a really heavy load to bare.
Well, now you know some of the reasons why I needed to find something more. I needed to find something that I could help others with. I love being able to help others, so tons of money is not the reason for my drive, but instead, helping my parents, my family, my friends, and just being able to live comfortably was all I wanted. I know, it sounds like a lot now that I say it out loud, but that was my goal. That was my drive.
Watch tomorrow for the walls I hit while pursuing this dream of mine. Nothing worth having is ever easy to get, and there were plenty of difficult walls to climb over on my journey.

So, I’m really wanting to track my journey so I can look back someday and reminisce. Sure, there’s some bad things that happen, but there’s also good, and I want to remember that.
I’ll start from the beginning…kind of; at least the beginning of my adult life. It took me a very long time to figure out what I wanted to do when I grew up.
My mom was a preschool teacher for over 25 years, and she was an excellent preschool teacher. I often helped her with the kids, especially at the end of the year when she had their graduation at the zoo. It was lots of fun helping. I was in high school and just graduated when I started helping her more.
My parents also owned a horse boarding facility, so I actually gave people horseback riding lessons for years. I enjoyed that for a while, too.
One day as I was giving a lesson, I had an epiphany. Since I teach kids every day anyways, and I really enjoyed it, why not just become a teacher?
I thought it would be really cool to have the summers and weekends off, and I liked I sort of already knew how to teach to a certain extent, so I decided to go to college and get my degree in teaching.
Well, long story short, teaching was not at all what I had imagined it to be. I was totally wrong about getting the summers off because I actually NEVER got a summer off, and I had to work the weekends ALL THE TIME!
It was super stressful, I became depressed, and I was sick all the time. My immune system was totally shot from hanging around all the kids all the time, and I knew I didn’t work in a school anymore…nope, I worked in a germ factory!
I worked more hours than any human being should have to work. So, along with working the summers and the weekends, I worked at home after I got off work at the school! There was ALWAYS something to do, and I felt like I could never get caught up!
It began really, really wearing on me. I was never happy. I never got to spend time with my family or my friends. Everyone always wondered where I was. My husband would have to go to parties and get togethers without me, because I either didn’t have time to go or I was sick.
It was absolutely ridiculous! I didn’t have any sort of a life, whatsoever! My life was my job, and I started really hating my job.
I was the last teacher to leave the school at night and the first one there in the morning. My principal loved me because I worked so hard, but even he said I really needed to start taking care of myself. But how?? How, when I have so much to do all the time!?
Needless to say, I had an entirely new respect for teachers after I became one. It’s definitely not all sunshine and rainbows like many people think. Teachers work SO HARD!
I also had a tuition from college that I’d probably have to pay on for the rest of my life. It’s ridiculous how much it is to go to college! And it’s ridiculous that people who don’t make millions of dollars a year are supposed to pay that crazy amount in tuition!
I think tuition should be based on what you’re making in your career. For instance, as a teacher, it’s not fair that I pay the same amount of tuition as an engineer or doctor. I don’t make enough to pay the same amount as them.
Now, a doctor or engineer can probably afford a little more in tuition, plus, they probably get a little more out of their tuition.
I ended up owing over $140,000 in tuition, and there was no way I was going to be able to pay that off with the paychecks I was getting.
I felt so lost. I felt like I worked my butt off for nothing. It was really hard to face that fact, especially after what happened later. But I’ll get to that.
I was completely and utterly burnt out. I dreaded getting up every morning and going to work. It killed me. I ended up being severely depressed and I felt so alone. I felt like I was in a deep, dark hole, and no one could hear me screaming. It’s the most awful feeling in the world when you’re surrounded by people, but you still feel so alone.
I even dreaded getting up on the weekends after a while. There was no joy in them anymore. I was either working or too tired to go do any of the things I used to love to do. I often slept in as long as I could, and then when I did get up, I worked.
I so wanted that feeling to come back that I used to have when I was excited to go do something fun, like camping, riding my dirt bike or mountain bike, riding my horse, or pretty much just being outdoors, but that feeling was long gone, and I had no idea how to get it back.
I missed my family more than anything. They even lived right next door to me, but I felt like they lived thousands of miles away! My sister had just had a brand new baby, too, and I could never go see her because I was always sick or completely drained. This made me so sad because my husband and I couldn’t have our own kids, so I really wanted to be a part of my niece’s life, but my life was getting in the way. It was torture.
To top it off, my dad was having health problems, which really worried me, plus he had just had surgery for prostate cancer not too long before this. I didn’t want to miss spending any time with him because you never know what might happen, but I was missing all of it.
I also just lost my grandma, who I loved with all my heart, and I never spent enough time with her, so it was literally killing me. I felt like such a loser, but I didn’t know what to do to change things.
I wondered if other teachers felt the same way I felt, and I wondered how they did it. How did they manage work and their own lives? I suppose some people are just meant for that kind of work, but I knew in my heart that I wasn’t.
As I said earlier, I was sick all the time. One day after work I became really, really sick. Which was actually usual obviously, but this time was a very different. I had a severely sharp pain in my left hip area and it actually kept me from even being able to walk. Every movement I made was excruciating and no one, including me understood why. I literally had to crawl to the bathroom, crying as I crawled because I was in so much pain. I’ve been hurt plenty of times before and broken and torn all kinds of things in my poor, abused body, but this topped them all. This was like nothing I’d ever experienced before. I just wanted someone to put me out of my misery, it was that bad.
My husband showed up as I was crawling to the bathroom and freaked out, asking what was wrong. He hated that I was sick all the time, but this time I could see the fear in his eyes. I told him I was okay, and I would go to the doctor tomorrow if I still felt this way. That wasn’t good enough for him, thank goodness!
He called my parents and they came running over. After seeing me they decided to call the ambulance. I’d never ridden in an ambulance, though, and I really didn’t want to today, so I told my parents what I told my husband, that I’d just wait till tomorrow and if it was still bad, I’d go to the doctor. They didn’t believe me, of course, because I really hate going to the doctor, plus, I must have looked like death because they called the ambulance anyways and didn’t give me the option to say no.
The entire drive in the ambulance is a blur to me, but I do know that the lady poked me at least 20 times trying to find a vein. I guess when you’re scared and in a lot of pain, your veins tend to shrink and hide. I didn’t know that until then, and I was in A LOT of pain and didn’t know why, so of course I was scared. She never ended up getting a vein, so when I got to the emergency room, they started poking me all over again.
Did I mention I HATE needles??
I was in the emergency room for 8 hours before they finally found a vein! 8 hours! So on top of being in excruciating pain, I felt like a pin cushion! Finally, they called someone in with an ultrasound machine to find a vein. Don’t ask me why it took them 8 hours to finally do that, because I couldn’t even begin to tell you! My parents and husband were getting very pissed about it. After my dad yelled at the nurse, “You’re hurting her!” they decided to send the professional vampire in. Took them long enough!
In the meantime, I had been getting MRIs and tests done with no pain relief! It was killing me! Every time they moved me, I moaned and groaned in pain. I kept drifting in and out of consciousness because of it, so I only remember parts.
After I spent that 8 hours in the emergency room, they sent me to ICU. I don’t remember that part at all, but my parents and husband do. They were very scared.
After all the tests they ran they finally found that I had contracted a weird blood infection. To this day we still don’t know exactly how I got it, but I’m assuming it’s because I nicked my chin bone on a wheelbarrow in the barn and cut it open. Even though I cleaned it religiously, it became infected. That’s the only thing I can think of that would have caused a blood infection.
They called it Serratia Marcescens, and I guess it’s everywhere. It’s in the dirt, in your dog’s water bowls, in your toilet and shower (if you’ve ever gotten a pink ring around them), and more. But it’s very unusual for people to contract, so it was a mystery, which scared me even more because I didn’t know what to avoid.
I kept my toilet, shower, and dog’s water bowl clean. But because I have dogs, I wondered if I had contracted it from one of them, but the doctor didn’t think so. That’s why I think it must have been the cut I got on my chin. The doctor also said that if you have a weak immune system, bacteria can easily get into your body, and I had a super weak immune system, hence the sick all the time thing.
BINGO!
I have a VERY weak immune system, in fact, I didn’t even know if I had an immune system anymore!
The doctor also told my family that if I would have waited one more day to go to the hospital, I might be dead.
Wow. That was very eye-opening. So final. Looking back I’m glad my family is as stubborn as I am, because I wanted to wait one more day, and honestly, I would’ve wanted to wait one more day after that, and another after that, so it’s a good thing they didn’t let me or I would not be telling you this story right now.
It was then that I knew I needed to make a change in my life. Life is way too short to wait around. I needed to do something, and I needed to do it NOW. I was tired of being sick all the time, and this episode really scared me. Who knows how much time we have on earth. Who knows how much time our family and friends have. I knew if I didn’t make a change now, I might miss everything, including my family, and I couldn’t have that.
I was in the hospital for a week, and I guess I should have stayed longer according to my doctor, but I needed to get out of there and start pursuing my new life before it was too late. I didn’t have another minute to miss.

I still couldn’t walk when I went home, and I was still in excruciating pain, but at least the blood infection was gone, or so they thought.
I was happy to be home with my puppies, on my couch, with my computer. I started researching ways to make money from home.
I found all kinds of things, and I tried all kinds of things. I tried surveys and writing, different systems that promised to make you money overnight, and all kinds of things that never did what they said they would do. It was extremely frustrating, and all the money I had left was disappearing quickly from me trying one thing after the other. I knew I didn’t want to go back to teaching, so I knew I wouldn’t have another paycheck unless I found something that worked.
Then I came across affiliate marketing. It looked interesting. I decided to sign up and give it a try, but unfortunately that try didn’t last very long.
You see, in the meantime, when I was at home, I was going to doctor’s appointments every week to get checked on. One week when I was sitting in the doctor’s office waiting for the doctor to come back, I got a really bad, sinking feeling. I couldn’t explain why, but I knew something was very wrong.
When the doctor came back, he explained that one of my bones had contracted the blood infection. WHAT???
I just went through hell, and you’re telling me I still have it, and it’s in one of my bones now?? That can’t be good! I felt my heart sink.
He said that I would have to have a catheter placed in my arm so that I could give myself antibiotics every day for about 6 weeks. If you know anything about catheters like this, they aren’t fun, but at least I could stay home and do it myself.
Anyways, I had a nurse come to my home once a week to clean my catheter, and I had antibiotics and supplies shipped to me once a week. It wasn’t so bad, but it wasn’t fun, either.
Ya know, to this day I don’t know for sure if the infection is completely gone…they never tested my blood after the catheter came out because my blood didn’t show the bone infection to begin with, an MRI did. So I guess you could say that I don’t even know for 100% certainty that it is a bone infection. That’s a scary thought!
But, I’m going to keep on living my life the way I want to live it, and just hope and pray that nothing like that ever happens again, but they say there’s a reason for everything. Maybe I had to almost die to change things. Like I said before, I’m really stubborn, so maybe that’s the only way I’d learn.
While I was home, nursing myself back to health, I decided to come up with a plan. I was going to work from home no matter what. I wanted to work my own hours, be my own boss, and do what I wanted to do. Simple as that… or so I thought.

Today, a friend from our horse barn and I were talking about what life was like for us as kids. It brought back tons of wonderful memories.
I started thinking about all the things my parents did for me when I was little, and all the things they still do for me. I feel so lucky to have the family I have. Not everyone is so lucky.
My family didn’t have a lot of money growing up, but what they did have they spent on my sister and I. Sure, there were things we couldn’t get, but if my parents could get it for us, and if they believed it would benefit us they would. Perhaps I sound a little spoiled…but that’s not really the case.
When I think of spoiled I think of unappreciative kids who just want, want, and keep wanting. My sister and I weren’t like that. I didn’t own video games or remote controlled cars and robots, and I sure didn’t own anything that would keep me inside the house all day. Most of my days were spent outside with my horses.
That doesn’t mean we didn’t ask for that kind of stuff, though. We wanted a Nintendo so badly, but my parents were smart enough not to get one for us. The only “techy” thing we owned was a karaoke machine, and that’s because we could have fun with it together as a family.
I had fantastic parents. I can’t stress that enough. That’s not to say we didn’t have rough patches. I think every family does. But for the most part, I lived an awesome childhood.
I spent most of my time outside, we ate dinner together as a family every night, we went to church every Sunday, and we camped all the time! My parents taught me to appreciate everything, including life.
I remember one Christmas I wanted a horse SO badly, but funds were really tight. We went and looked at this one horse that I absolutely fell in love with. Her name was Cotton Ginny. She was a beautiful bay appaloosa, tall and muscular, and I wanted her more than anything else in the world. I begged and begged my parents to get her for me, and they said they would think about it.
I asked about Cotton every single day after I saw her, “Did you call the owner yet? What did they say? Can we pleeeeeaaaaase get her?”
And everyday it was the same response, “We tried calling the owner, but they didn’t answer. We’ll try again tomorrow.”
I could hardly stand it. The waiting was killing me! Then one day I got a different answer.
I asked the same question, but this time my parents told me that they finally got a hold of the owner, but, unfortunately, the owner had already sold Cotton.
I was absolutely devastated. I went to my room and cried and cried. Cotton was all I ever wanted, and now I’d never have her. I felt like she belonged with me, but now she’d be with someone else. It just didn’t seem fair.
Christmas was right around the corner. I finally came out of my room realizing what my parents had taught me: if it’s meant to be, it will be. I started looking for other horses to buy. It just wasn’t the same, though.
Christmas morning my whole family gathered around the beautiful lit-up Christmas tree, and started opening gifts. We always took turns and thanked the gift-giver with a hug. My parents always went overboard even though they really didn’t have the money to do so.
The last gift was for me. My mom told me to go get it from behind the tree. For a short moment I wondered how it ended up behind the tree. I opened that small box, wondering what was in it. We didn’t tear our presents open, we liked to respect each other by opening them with care. I opened the lid slowly and what I saw broke my heart.
It was two pictures of Cotton Ginny, the horse of my dreams. I wondered how mom and dad could do this to me. I was already heartbroken over her being sold to someone else, how could they rub it in by giving me two pictures of the most beautiful horse I’d ever seen?
Then I noticed that my dad was holding her in one of the pictures. As a tear rolled down my cheek, my parents said, “She’s yours!”
I didn’t get it at first. I didn’t just want pictures of Cotton! I wanted Cotton…with all my heart!
Then it hit me! THEY were the people who bought her!! It was a surprise all along! Honestly, I don’t know how they kept it from me, especially while I was in my room crying! But, I didn’t care! She was mine and I couldn’t be happier!
That was absolutely the best Christmas I’ve ever had. Cotton isn’t with me anymore, she went to heaven where I’ll meet up with her again someday, but her memory lives on in my heart. She was with me through all my difficult teenage years, and she was my very best friend. I spent entire days with her. I loved her so much, and I know she loved me, too.
If I was sad, I’d go into her stall and sit in the corner on the floor. Cotton would come place her muzzle on my head and breath slowly. She had a trickle in her breath that always made me feel better. I’ll never forget her. We really were meant to be.
That’s just a little taste of my wonderful childhood, and proof of how very lucky I was.

Everyone goes through hard times. One of my favorite sayings is, “Be kind, for everyone is fighting an uphill battle” (author unknown). Sometimes we get stuck thinking we are the only one struggling, but we’re not alone.
I fall prey to this feeling. Things are just not going the way I think they should, or something terrible happens, or I just can’t seem to see any light at the end of the tunnel, but I have to remember, I’m not alone.
People all across the world are struggling, just like me.
They may not be struggling with the same exact things, but they are struggling, so be kind and remember that. Too many people walk around with a chip on their shoulder because they believe life is so hard and they are the only one with problems. It makes for a very unhappy world.
If we remember that everyone is suffering and if we all looked out for one another, the world would be a much happier, healthier place. Sure, there will always be skeptics and unhappy people, but does that mean you have to be one? No way!
It’s amazing what a small gesture of kindness can do for someone. When you’re walking down the street, and someone is passing by you, look into his or her eyes and say, “hello.” Maybe they’ll say hello and smile back at you. Maybe they won’t.
Either way, you were the bigger, better person, and perhaps they’ll think about it later that day and it will make them smile. If that’s the case, you did your job! You also scored some good points if you believe in karma!
Another saying I really love is, “God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers” (author unknown).
I’m a believer, and sometimes I wonder why God would let such terrible things happen to me. Sometimes I might feel resentful about it because it’s difficult to remember that this life is molding us into the people we are meant to be. Without tough times, we would be someone entirely different. In fact, we would probably be someone we wish we weren’t.
Be grateful for those battles. It may sound crazy, but it’s important. If there is someone out there who isn’t fighting any battles, then good for them. But they will not be as strong as you or I. They will struggle with even the smallest problems. Do you want that for yourself?
I think of it like this: I’ve seen and known people who haven’t had the struggles I’ve had, and I would never want to be that person. To them, everything is a life-altering problem; even the small issues are huge issues to them. I definitely don’t want to be that person.
I also think of Adam and Eve. If they had not eaten that apple, we all would be living a much different life right now. But they did, and we are paying for it. So, let’s pay our dues and move on. Someday, we won’t have to worry about paying those dues anymore.
We will all have problems in life. It’s what we do with each problem that matters. If we sulk and feel sorry for ourselves, then the problems will grow. If we learn from the problem, and move on, the problem will shrink, and we will be a better person for it.
Just recently I had a fake check sent to me. I’m still not sure why, but it really caused some huge issues for me. I used a lot of the money from it to pay bills before I found out it wasn’t legit, so now I owe the bank a lot of money. I was very angry about this, and I couldn’t understand why someone would do this to another human being.
I can sit and stew on this, or I can learn from it. If I sit and stew on it, what will it change? Absolutely nothing. So what’s the point? Instead, I can take the very valuable lesson I learned and use it for other things in my life. I can become a better person because of it.
I know that I would never do something like that to someone else, so it’s difficult for me to understand why someone would. But I don’t have to worry about why. God gave me this battle for a reason, and I’m going to learn from it and move on.
I hope this helps you to understand that you are a soldier. You are strong and courageous. You can fight and win any battle thrown your way, and you WILL get through it.
Just remember you’re never alone. You never have to fight these battles all by yourself, and you never have to worry about losing. There will always be light at the end of the tunnel, even if you can’t see it just yet…keep looking. Don’t give up. You’ll be a better person for it.

“Don’t be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.” ~ John D. Rockefeller
Today I just wanted to talk about goals. I saw this quote and it made me think of something my parents used to always tell me when I was growing up… “Reach for the stars, no matter how far, and you’ll always get one.”
I never forgot that. I guess some people might say I set my goals too high, but is there really such a thing? Is it really possible to set a goal, a dream, an ambition “too high?”
I don’t think so. The higher you set your goals, the greater chance you’ll have of reaching them.
Why would I set my goals low? I always wondered that when people told me not to reach for the stars…when they told me to just start with the clouds. I didn’t want a cloud. I wanted a star!
The reasons they gave were as lame as the advice they gave. They would say, “ You have a greater chance of reaching the clouds.” Or, “The clouds are a lot easier to reach.”
So what?
If I wanted a cloud, I’d go for a cloud, but if I want a star, I’m going for the biggest, brightest star I can find!
You can, too!
Set your goals high, and keep working towards them all the time, and I guarantee you WILL get there.
It may take a while, in fact, it may take a long time, but don’t EVER give up, because I KNOW you will reach them! You deserve it after all your hard work!
My goal was to help my parents retire and to be able to spend more time with my friends and family instead of working all the time. And guess what? I’m on my way there! But the only reason I’m on my way there is because I didn’t give up.
I set my goals high, and I get closer and closer to them every single day.
The only way to reach your goals is to first set them. I’ll never ever tell you to set your goals low so you can easily reach them. And I’ll never tell you to give up when it gets difficult. But I will be here to support you and urge you on, because my friend, you can do it!
You are strong and intelligent. You are bold and brave. You can reach any goal you put your mind to.
I’m here for you if you need me. Whether you need help or just a listening ear. I’ll be here to support you until you don’t need my support anymore, and then I’ll still be rooting for you every step of the way!

Have you ever wondered why some people are so lucky? Why they have all the money, all the fortune, and all the good luck? Well, I’m here to tell you that looks can be deceiving.
If you happened to run into someone that seems to have it all…purely good luck all the time, no worries, no problems, I can guarantee that success did not come easily. Unless you were born into fortune, the only thing that’s going to make your dreams come true is hard work and perseverance.
I haven’t been in the online business world for long, but I’ve been in it long enough to know that all that fame and fortune didn’t come overnight. The people who seem to have it all worked extremely hard to get it. They spent many sleepless nights trying new things, working on projects, and racking their brain for ideas.
You see, the problem now is that no one wants to work hard. We live in a time when everyone wants, wants, wants, but no one wants to give back. They look around and see other people with fancy cars, houses, and clothes, and they want it, too, but they don’t want to have to work for it.
It takes time, investment, and a ton of energy to create the life you want. Sitting around playing video games will NOT get you there. Standing around with your hand out will NOT get you there. Taking from others and not giving back will NOT get you there. But that seems to be what so many people believe nowadays. The old saying, “What’s yours is mine,” seems to be the way people think now.
Can you believe that there was even an idea out there that people could use anything they wanted, even if it didn’t belong to them?? They could use your tools, your property, your house! They didn’t work for any of it, but they could use it whenever they wanted to! I cannot believe that there was even such an idea!
I recently heard a great story about two high school girls. They were good friends. One of the girls, we’ll say her name is Wendy, worked hard all through high school. Instead of partying with her friends, she studied. Instead of cheating on tests, she studied. Instead of walking around with her hand out, she worked super hard to get to where she was. She worked so hard that she was going to graduate with a 4.0 GPA (grade point average), and she deserved every bit of it.
Her friend, let’s call her Cindy, was a different story. She didn’t study, she didn’t work hard, and she stood around with her hand out, wanting people to give, give, give. She partied instead of studying, she cheated on tests whenever she had the chance, and she basically “faked” her way through high school. Well, when it came time for the real exams, she failed. Instead of getting a 4.0, like her friend, Wendy, she was going to be held back with a 1.5 GPA.
One day after school, Wendy’s dad wanted to talk with her. He told her how proud he was of her and all her hard work. “But…” he said, “Your friend is not going to graduate, and I think that you should help her.”
Wendy was confused, “How can I help her, Dad? I’ve tried to help her study, I’ve been there for her so she can practice with me, I’ve given her all kinds of chances to work, but she didn’t want to. So, how am I supposed to help someone who doesn’t want to be helped?”
Her dad looked her right in the eyes and said, “Well, since you’re getting a 4.0 and she’s getting a 1.5, I thought it would be nice if you shared your GPA with her, so she can graduate. If you gave her part of your GPA, then you both could graduate. You could give her 1.25 of your GPA, then she could graduate with a 2.75 GPA and so could you.”
Wendy was appalled! Was he serious? All the hard work she did to do her best in school would be given to someone who could care less! So she argued with her father. “Dad! I worked hard for that GPA! I studied instead of partying, I did my best on tests instead of cheating, I worked my tail off for this GPA! I don’t want to just give it to someone else!”
Her dad chuckled. “Well, my dear, welcome to the real world. I’m so proud of you.”
Long story short, those people who worked their tails off to get to where they are shouldn’t have to give it all up for someone who didn’t work a day in their life.
If one wants the same fortunes, then they, too, should work for them. They should not stand around with their hand out, waiting for someone to give it to them. That is not the way the world works, nor should it be the way the world works.
The moral of the story is, if you want something, work for it. If you don’t work for it, you’ll never get it. It may sound harsh, but it’s true.
Yes, there are those outliers who will get a big payout by inheriting it, but those are outliers. That doesn’t happen to everyone. However, you can have the life you dream of if you put the time and effort into it.
Don’t stand around with your hand out, expecting others to give to you. Go get it yourself. Work hard, and good things will happen.
I suppose there will always be those people who want things to be given to them without working for them, but please don’t be one of them. There’s absolutely no reason you can’t have everything you wish for if you work for it!
You’ve been given all the tools you need, so use them. Build the life of your dreams with your own bare hands. You will be glad you did, and you will appreciate it even more.

Today I just wanted to talk about how appearances can be deceiving, especially in this day and age.
Let’s look at two men, for example. One is wearing a super nice business suit made from the finest materials, and the other is wearing jeans and a t-shirt. They’re both in a coffee shop getting a cup to go. The guy in the suit has a newspaper curled up under his arm, and the guy in the jeans and t-shirt is empty-handed, expect for his wallet.
They both order their coffee and leave. The man in the business suit heads off to work, but the guy in the jeans and t-shirt heads back home.
Now let me ask you a question…which one do you think has more money?
Just to clarify, I’m not only talking about material riches here, I’m talking about the riches of life, too. Which one is happier with their life? Which one works less because he doesn’t have to work more? Which one enjoys their work? Can you guess?
If you said the guy in the suit…you’re wrong. You see, nowadays the guy in the suit is unhappy. He’s working over 40 hours a week, barely ever gets to see or spend time with his family, and has to answer to someone else every single day.
Years ago you may have been right. Years ago, the man in the suit may have been the one with the money, but times have changed.
Back to the guy in the jeans and t-shirt…he probably doesn’t have to get dressed up every day to go to work. In fact, he probably doesn’t even have to go to work at all because he probably works from home. And because he works from home he gets to spend more time with his family, therefore, he’s probably much happier than the guy in the nice suit.
Are you picking up what I’m laying down?
Gone are the days when the rich wore business suits everyday. Now the rich work from home and wear whatever they want to wear. They work when they want to work, and they do what they want to do. They don’t have to answer to a boss, and they can spend as much time with their family as they want.
Doesn’t that sound nice? My point is this; you don’t have to be unhappy to have money. There are so many different ways to make money now, and many of those ways involve working from home, working your own hours, and being your own boss.
Does this sound like something you’d be interested in? If not, well, I’m not sure what planet you’re from, but it’s not earth.
I started working from home a little less than a year ago, and I can tell you from experience that I’m so much happier than I’ve ever been. I have no desire to go back to working for someone else. I’m happy being my own boss.
I now have my own businesses, which you’ll see below, and I just started another business doing what I love to do…archery! I was able to choose what I wanted to do, and so can you.
So if you’re not happy where you are, do something about it. There’s no reason to be unhappy and poor when you can be happy and rich.
That’s my advice for the day. Live your dreams. Be happy.
